Get Out of That Cave!!
One of my favorite touchpoint Scriptures is I Samuel 22:1-5. David is sitting in the cave of Adullam, which means the “Place of the Squeeze.” I don’t know about you, but sometimes I really feel like I’m being squeezed by the circumstances of my life!
Verse 2 says that all that were with David, about 400 men and their families, were in distress, in debt or discontented! Quite a crew of people hanging out in that cave! And I can imagine the moaning and groaning and complaining going on around the campfire. Wow!! I’m betting it was not a pleasant place to be at all.
When I’m hanging out in the cave, I have some choices to make. I can make it pretty – hang wallpaper, put up pretty curtains and lay some carpet to make things more pleasant. I can decide the Squeeze is where I’m stuck and just camp out in this drafty old cave and stay in debt and discontented and distressed. It’s my choice!
Better yet, I can decide to follow the advice of the prophet (verse 5) and remember that this cave is not my destination! I am on my way to the palace with those who love me and support me. I can remember I don’t have to stay in debt, discontented and distressed. It isn’t my final destiny. My final destiny is the Palace!!!!
So, it’s time to get my stuff together, pack my bags and get out of the cave. Let somebody else decorate this place and camp out here because I’ve been told my place is somewhere else. I know it isn’t a quick trip from one to the other and there will be other stops along the way, but my destiny is before me.
Come on and go with me!!!
